Beginnings

Tunnel“Things everyone should know.” “Things I wish I’d learned before I was 20.” “Things I should have learned in Kindergarten.” I’m looking for a great advice book to fill in the many holes — the things I somehow missed growing up. Something that’s easy to read, an idea a day. Use it almost like a yearly devotional. I haven’t found it. So, “just for myself,” I’m assembling pieces of it. Maybe this is along the lines of “things I wish I could tell my 20-year old self.” , or “best advice I’ve ever received.”

Part of my inspiration is A Year with C. S. Lewis. This wonderful little book inspires me every day. I’m on my at least my fifth year reading through it. Short. Sort of simple. Yet often deep. The key is that each re-reading, even though I’ve seen the material before, something new shows up. Or maybe it’s just that I’m more prepared to receive it.

So, that’s where I want to go with this. No real category for this. Business. Spiritual.? Relational. Maybe even emotional. Wisdom. Knowledge. Even touchy-feely stuff! Who knows. I’ve been collecting ideas for a while. Time to start making a record.

I’d welcome other “foundational” learnings. What do you wish you had learned much earlier in life?
